Summer Updates ☀️

Hey all, it's been a bit quiet over here. That's because my summer has been quite hectic. This post will just be a showcase of things happening here at CBDiabla.world, both creative and fun.

First Vinyl only Mix

I got a chance to play my first vinyl only DJ set at Vinyl Azul record store in Querétaro. It was also my first time using a rotary mixer. Both things were really fun. I leaned into more introspective records, playing drone, ambient, jazz, death metal interludes and VGM. Also, mid-performance, a reporter reached out and asked me some questions about vinyl records. So I unexpectedly got featured in Televisa 😂

Home Studio

I spent some time with my brother doing remodeling at my mom's house. Like many of our parents' houses, it had a bit of an accumulation problem... We decided to take the step of decluttering and setting up a nice space for ourselves in the house, so for future visits and remodelings we can have an enjoyable space to go back to. The end result of our work is the alpha version of a home studio and retro-gaming room. I'm excited to see it evolve even more next time we visit.

Gigs

These months have been very eventful when it comes to DJ gigs. Some of them I will talk about in more length in other posts, such as two talks/presentations I did as well as my first two live performances with my noise/drone band "Terror Neuronal". I'm excited that my practice is branching out into things besides DJing. Apart from that, I got to play in Querétaro with Fiebre, a great party/collective from Guadalajara. All of the sets were amazing, but a torrential deluge prevented people from coming to the show.

I'm also performing for the first time in Montreal this Friday 😳, color me excited!

Active Passive Festival

I got the chance to attend Active Passive festival in Galiano Island. It's a small but extremely wholesome event focusing on ambient and slower kinds of music. The music is relaxing, the people are extremely nice, and things wrap up pretty early. It's the ultimate chill festival experience. Some highlights:

• All the artists talked about how this was one of the best hospitality experiences they have received.
• The constraints of the island really shaped the energy of the festival. Small island meant small crowd. Water scarcity meant we all had to adopt a mindset of sharing. Few ferries a day meant most people traveled and carpooled together. Fire hazard meant everyone had to hang and become friends in one smoking area.
• I've never been to such a neurodivergent friendly event. Instructions welcomed people to ask questions, and everyone there was so accomodating .
• The harm reduction tent had a herbal electrolyte blend. Amazing.
• Artists and staff frequently took a stance and spoke about colonization.
• No clickey scene vibes at all. Everyone was very down to earth, I didn't feel a divide between artists and fans.
• Galiano island is beautiful. I walked some trails and swam in the beach twice.
• The festival was all ages. Having kids around makes things really cute.

Summer Maxing

Finally, I just have been spending some lovely time with friends and loved ones, and enjoying the outdoors. I hope you have been able to do so as well!
